Lesson Plan

Personal Goals Lesson Continuation

  • Students will be able to apply the habits planning from the last lesson to their goals for the semester

The questions in this brief lesson will focus some of the thoughts and decision-making from the last lesson to apply to students’ own plans for this semester. The hope is that this is something students can look back on later in the year to see how they are doing.

VAR.7 – Create and track sustainable and desirable habits.

Extension Lesson

Lesson:

Engage (5 minutes):

Students should individually write about the journal prompt: What do you value when it comes to your academics?

This question will help lead into the questions students will consider in the next part of the activity. This is a great opportunity to connect back to the Personal Goals & Healthy Habits from the last lesson.

Apply (10-15 minutes):

Allow students time to both think and individually complete the table with the following questions:

  • Write down a goal you would like to achieve for semester 1.
  • What habit will you do to achieve this goal? Why?
  • What are some patterns in your thoughts or behaviors that may interfere with you achieving your semester 1 goal?
  • What can you put in place to help interrupt these patterns of behaviors you mentioned in the last question?

Once students have had enough time to think and respond, have students pair up and share out with at least one other student.

Reflect (5 minutes):

Students should prepare to start the first steps towards making their goal happen by answering the following question:

  • How will you implement your habit this week in your academic classes to start reaching your semester 1 goal?

Encourage students to put this on their planner, calendar, etc., so that they can keep it top of mind this week. It would also be good to have these goals and habits accessible to refer back to throughout the semester.
