Lesson:
Engage (5 minutes):
Have students research and discuss as a class what the term “digital citizenship” means.
Apply (50 minutes):
Activity 1- (30 Minutes)
Distribute role cards to each student.
Present different scenarios related to digital citizenship and online behavior.
- Instruct students to imagine they are their assigned personas and participate in role-play scenarios based on the presented situations.
- Encourage them to think and act as the character they’re representing.
Small Group Discussion-
- Divide students into small groups based on their roles.
- Within each group, have students discuss their experiences during the role-play and how their personas approached the situations.
Class Discussion-
- Bring the whole class together and invite each group to share insights and observations from their discussions.
- Lead a reflective discussion on responsible online behavior, media consumption, and the challenges associated with digital citizenship.
- Collaboratively create a list of responsible online behavior guidelines on a flipchart or whiteboard based on the insights from the discussions.
Activity 2- (20 Minutes)
Initiate a discussion by asking students if they’re familiar with the term “digital tattoo” and its implications.
Encourage students to share their thoughts on how their online behavior today can impact their future goals.
- Divide students into pairs or small groups.
- Provide each group with a large sheet of paper and markers.
- Ask them to design a visual representation of a “digital tattoo” that symbolizes how online behavior can affect their future aspirations.
- Have each group present their “digital tattoo” to the class, explaining the elements they included and the message it conveys.
- Facilitate a discussion after each presentation, encouraging students to share their interpretations.
Have students research real-life examples of individuals whose online behavior had long-term consequences on their careers, relationships, or goals.
