Seth Werfel, Ph.D.

Quantitative Social Scientist, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropic Advisor

The impact of Decision Education can be far-reaching and profound because it is the very core of everything that we do. And just as we are affected by our own decisions, we are also inextricably tied to the decisions of others. The students who benefit from Decision Education today will one day represent you in office, take care of you at your bedside, and may even marry your children. Would you rather they made better or worse decisions?

Seth Werfel is a quantitative social scientist with more than 15 years of experience using data and evidence to help solve problems in the social sector. Most recently, he has worked with leaders in philanthropy to incorporate data analysis and evidence synthesis into their decision-making. Earlier in his career, he worked for the White House Council of Economic Advisers and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he produced forecast models and data briefings for senior leadership. He also has experience in entrepreneurship, both working for a VC firm in Silicon Valley and launching an evidence-based Q&A platform.

He received a Ph.D. from Stanford University, where he was the recipient of a National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship. His research focused on judgment and decision-making in a wide range of contexts, including how much people decide to contribute to social causes and how inventors decide to monetize their intellectual property.
