Abby Sheffer

Education Senior Manager

Abby Sheffer is an Education Senior Manager at the Alliance for Decision Education, previously working for more than 15 years as an educator, coach, and leader at public, charter, and independent schools in the United States and Mexico.

Prior to joining the Alliance, Abby was the Lower School Director at Creative Minds International Public Charter School in Washington, DC. She also has worked as a teacher and instructional coach at public and charter schools in New York City and Washington, DC, and as an educational consultant for early childhood foreign language programs. In Mexico, Abby was a teacher and Director of Curriculum at the American School of Pachuca, and a teacher at the Cuixmala School, a progressive independent school in Jalisco.

Abby is bilingual in English/Spanish and has extensive experience building English Language and dual-language programs. Much of her work has focused on early literacy and language development and serving as an advocate for English Learners.

Abby earned her M.S. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at City College of New York as part of the New York City Teaching Fellows program, and her B.A. in English from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. Recent honors include participating in the Nexus Fellowship with the Equity Lab and presenting at the 10th Annual Progressive Education Summit with the City Neighbors Foundation.

Abby lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her husband Gustavo, their two boys, and one rescue dog. She enjoys dragging all of them out to explore nearby forests and bay beaches.
