Welcome! We are looking forward to reviewing your application to be a Decision Education Fellow. We are looking for middle and high school teachers interested in building their students’ decision-making skills, which will help them in class and throughout their lives.
Our first Fellows found the program rewarding, saying it “transformed” their classes, increased student engagement, and built a foundation for improved decision-making, which they know their students need.
Our applications have now closed. We are excited to kick off the 2021-22 Decision Education Fellowship this fall.
About the Fellowship
The Decision Education Fellowship is open to middle and high school teachers of ELA, Social Studies, Math, and Science.
Teachers may be either full or part-time. School Counselors also will be considered. Our aim is to build a diverse Fellowship to enable rich learning for all included, thus we are seeking teachers from all school types (public, private, and charter), geographies, demographics, and representing racial and ethnic diversity.
Applicants must be able to attend virtual meetings every Wednesday from 4PM - 5:30PM EST, October 6 - December 15, 2021. There will be no meetings during the week of Thanksgiving.
Applicants must also be able to complete one hour of asynchronous work each week.
Fellows will be introduced to 7 Key Areas of Decision Education and will then use this knowledge to create a curricular unit to implement in their classrooms. Fellows will implement units in their classrooms by early spring of 2022 and will return together for a culminating session.
All Fellows receive a $3,000 stipend for participation in the program.
Timeline & Overview
Fellows will meet both synchronously and asynchronously to learn about the foundational areas of Decision Science and Decision Education, including cognitive biases/heuristics, probabilistic thinking, dispositions for skilled decision-making, and structured decision-making tools.
Fellows will then work collaboratively to plan a multi-lesson unit that takes their students through a structured decision-making process. Fellows will have the option to map their unit onto the core content they teach, or to create a stand-alone unit that would be implemented outside of their primary content area.
Synchronous Fellowship Meetings:
Wednesdays from 4PM - 5:30PM EST. Tentatively as follows:
- Session 1: Wednesday, October 6
- Session 2: Wednesday, October 13
- Session 3: Wednesday, October 20

Culminating Session: Spring 2022 (Date TBD)
