  • Location:

Virtual

Join us for an action-packed night of poker playing, tips from experts, and engagement during our October 27 Virtual Poker Tournament—starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Alliance for Decision Education has held three in-person Poker Ball events, each followed by demands to “do it again.” This year, in an effort to ensure everyone’s comfort and convenience, we are holding a Virtual Tournament with players able to join from all over the world.

All proceeds support the Alliance for Decision Education mission to empower every student with essential judgment and decision-making skills. The Alliance is working toward a day when Decision Education is a part of every student’s learning experience as we know that better decisions lead to better lives, and a better society.

*Please note, you do not need to be an experienced poker player to participate.

Special Event Host

The tournament will be hosted by Annie Duke, Alliance co-founder, best-selling author on decision-making, and former professional poker player. Annie won more than $4 million playing tournament poker, won a World Series of Poker bracelet, and is the only woman to have won the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions and the NBC National Poker Heads-Up Championship. She retired from the game in 2012.

Annie’s passion for fast-paced decision-making and study of Cognitive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania led her to write two national best-sellers: How to Decide and Thinking In Bets. Her new book is, Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away.

Special Guest Commentator

Joining Annie in providing game commentary and updates will be Maria Konnikova, also a best-selling author and professional poker champion. Maria authored The Biggest Bluff, The Confidence Game, and Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes. While researching The Biggest Bluff, Maria became an international poker champion and the winner of over $300,000 in tournament earnings—and inadvertently turned into a professional poker player.

Maria hosts the podcast The Grift from Panoply Media and is a regularly contributing writer for The New Yorker.

About the Tournament

The tournament will feature high-stakes competition, prizes, live commentary, and a sprinkling of tips from experts. Players at all levels are welcome to join.

The night starts as a Multi-Table Tournament with nine seats per table. Tables are combined as players are eliminated, playing down to the final table, where everyone wins top prizes!

Detailed rules and instructions will be shared in advance, and real-time support and tips will be shared throughout the event.

Players will be able to access the tournament from any device, however a laptop or desktop is recommended for the best viewing experience. Don’t miss out on this fun!
